 Getting there by Lorraine

Lorraine knew how to bend its spine on its zone of passage exposed,
With its citadels and forts it was the scene of the combats of hatred,
Without ever giving up, thanks to its forests, and its protected environment,
If some called it "Naughty" others treated it as a "Queen".

Annexed by Prussia in 1871 then symbol of the Great War,
Verdun will be the world capital of the fighting where the blood reddens the soil of its heaths,
Lorraine will again be in the front line for the Second World War,
Protected by the Maginot Line, supposed to stop the advance of the German troops.

Lorraine has four children whom she has raised as best she can,
Not long ago that some fought for her, envious,
But God the Lorraine is pretty,
Between Meurthe, Meuse, Moselle and Vosges embellies.

From the Lorraine of the industrial North, proud of its mines of yesteryear,
Towards Southern Lorraine, rural and bucolic boroughs,
She opens her windows on Belgian Wallonia, turns her eyes towards Luxembourg,
While exchanging with the German Rhineland and Palatinate.

Small detour by the Meurthe and Moselle, to the valleys set with green,
A very wooded department which once housed a powerful steel empire,
The minette, the iron ore, was extracted from its limestone plateaux,
The various populations that flocked developed many factories.

In the hollow of a loop of the Moselle, Liverdun the medieval city of the ancients,
Floor on its rocky spur its houses of resorts for Nancy,
If the lovers of the river tourism appreciate the halt at the marina,
Gourmets delight in madeleines with a pretty shell shape without complaints.

Enchanted with grace on the slope of the coasts of Toul, with its houses "casings"
White stones, wine and religion summarize the identity of the vineyard town of Bruley,
In this "little Lourdes Lorraine," the young pretenders for the evening of May,
Place a branch of charm among girls to marry to the beautiful ideals.

On a meander of the Meurthe it knew its prosperity in the age of Enlightenment,
Rosières - aux-Salines lived the salt of the earth for centuries,
Today, a national stud farm, one of the oldest in France,
Dedicated to the sustainability of the Ardennes race with welcoming horse shows.

Capital of Xaintois, described as "chamber pot of Lorraine" without cocassery,
Vézelise is distinguished by its old wooden halls dating from the Renaissance,
Along its street winding the village, from high mansions to the aspect of power,
Reminds us of a bygone era when this ancient bailiwick lived to the rhythm of its brewery.
